OMACK / FITMENT REFERENCE

Choose the right guide bar

A matching length is only the beginning. Check the saw model and all five specifications before choosing a replacement guide bar.

Start with the exact saw model

Record the manufacturer, model and relevant model variant. Check the owner’s manual for approved bar lengths and cutting-system configurations.

Use the old bar’s part number as a reference, but first confirm that the current setup is correct. A previously fitted part is not automatically an approved fit.

01 / Nominal cutting length

Guide bars are sold by nominal cutting length, such as 16 or 18 inches, not the overall tail-to-nose length of a detached bar.

The exposed working length is a useful cross-check. Use the manufacturer’s specification to select a replacement rather than rounding a measurement to the nearest product size.

02 / Pitch & chain family

Match the chain pitch and family to the bar and saw’s drive sprocket. On a sprocket-nose bar, the nose sprocket must be compatible too.

Pitch can be measured between the centers of three consecutive chain rivets, divided by two. Prefer clear part markings and the correct product reference; measurement alone does not distinguish every chain family, including low-profile systems.

03 / Gauge

Gauge is the drive-link thickness where it enters the bar groove. Common markings include .043 in, .050 in, .058 in and .063 in.

Use the marked specification or a suitable identification tool. Worn parts can give misleading measurements. Never force an oversized drive link into a groove.

04 / Required drive-link count

Count the drive links around the chain, not its cutting teeth. The required loop length is determined by the approved bar-and-saw combination.

Two bars of the same nominal length can require different counts. Use the replacement configuration’s specified count rather than assuming the old chain will fit.

05 / Mount pattern

Confirm the mounting slot, tensioner engagement, oil-hole alignment and clearance at the drive sprocket. Matching the mounting studs alone is insufficient.

Check the mount reference against the exact saw model and product listing. Do not drill or file the bar tail to make a part fit.

Your pre-order checklist

  • Chainsaw make and exact model.
  • Existing guide-bar reference.
  • Approved nominal cutting length.
  • Pitch and chain family.
  • Gauge.
  • Required drive-link count.
  • Mount reference and oil-hole alignment.
